About Jon Moore
Jon Moore provides an exclusive teaching experience.
Specialising in residential sewing workshops, creating his patterns, draped on the stand and then graded for each workshop, printed on cotton to replicate Couture patterns.
These courses specialise in teaching hand sewing skills based on over 40 years experience of working at the very top of the Couture world.
Taking a Jon Moore class opens the door to a world of sewing that will enhance your sewing skills and give you the tools to make beautiful Couture clothes.
Jon has been teaching Couture sewing techniques for the past twelve years, firstly with Claire Shaeffer in Palm Springs, California and then with Kathryn Brenne in North Bay, Canada and most recently at Gaddens Manor in The New Forest, England with Jane Edwards.
Jon originally studied Fashion Design at Kingston University and after graduation in 1979 joined the Design studio at Royal Couturier Hardy Amies. Progressing from Studio Assistant to Women’s Wear Designer, Couture Director and finally Design Director, a role he held for five years.
In 2002, Jon established JON MOORE LTD to enable him to design and most importantly create by hand, one off Couture garments for private clients. After designing and sketching an outfit, Jon worked directly on the stand, modelled to the exact measurements of the client. The cloth was draped directly on the stand to realise a unique soft sculpture in fabric. Then using traditional Couture hand sewing techniques a beautifully made, fitted and exquisitely hand finished garment was produced.
During Jon’s long career in Couture, he has worked with some of the most extraordinarily gifted and talented Couture fitters, seamstresses, tailors and some very discerning clients, H.M.Queen Elizabeth amongst them. It is these techniques that Jon is passionate about preserving and exploring through his teaching, so that these time honored skills can be passed on and preserved for future generations.
